Brainstorming Session

It's Friday Eve and I'm trying to decide what direction I want to take my Friday column for the Tribune,  so I've been wasting time on YouTube this morning trying to get some inspiration.

I already know what I'm doing for my Sunday column - Super Bowl Sunday that is - and I can clue you into my mind on that one. I'm going to bridge the gap between being a fan of a team not playing in the Super Bowl and being a fan of a player in it. (For those that don't know, I am a Steelers fan but also very allegiant to Peyton Manning, thus my angle for the column.)

I have been leaning towards a column on Richard Sherman for Friday's paper, but I may decide to do something on a local Hall of Fame induction instead. Like I said, I'm still looking for the right spark to lead me to one or the other.

If I go with the Sherman angle, I most definitely will be sharing my thoughts on this:

Honestly, I never had a problem with this interview, given the time and place that it occurred. Also, given the man Sherman is off the field, I think it's appropriate to fill people in on the great things he does away from the game of football.

The more I think about it, I do want to tackle this Sherman thing and get my thoughts in print about it, and that will most likely be my direction for tomorrow's column.

So I guess that's about it for my Thursday morning brainstorming session. Have a blessed day everyone!

I'll leave you with a song for today, 'By and Down' by A Perfect Circle. I love this song……

Have a great day everybody!

Snow Day Reflection

Any snow day, that stretches into what appears to be a few upcoming snow days, can have a weird effect on a person, and I'm no different.

I'm used to being on the go, having something to do every single minute of the day. So when my "routine" gets thrown off course by circumstances beyond my control, I can tend to go a bit stir crazy.

Today for instance has seemed like the longest day I've been through in a long time. I went to work this morning as usual and got my work done early enough to beat the majority of the snow that has fallen at my home.

But once I got home, the realization that I will be confined here for a period of time finally crept in. "What will I do?" I asked myself, and I still don't have a concrete answer to that question.

I will try to make the most of it by catching up on some reading, maybe watch a movie or 12. But what I really need to do is find some time to think about my life and things in it right now.

I'm a 33-year old single man looking for the right direction in my life and hoping God points me in that direction soon.

I have a wonderful family and support system, and I love them all dearly - especially my 5-year old nephew Isaiah and 19-month old niece Caroline - but now more than ever I have found myself wondering and thinking about my own personal family future.

When will I find the right woman to be with? Where will I find her? What will life be like with children of my own?

I'm not a wealthy man by any means, as I knew with my profession that money was not going to be prevalent. But I want to feel wealthy in terms of my life and everything in it, and you can't put a monetary value on that.

Who knows, I may have already met the person for me. I just want her to know that I'm out there looking for her, wherever she may be.

For a long time now, I have thought very seriously about beginning a blog - a journal of sorts - to chronicle things that I encounter in my life as a sports editor, uncle, son and brother.

I finally pulled the trigger today and joined the blogger world, and you can find, as my blog name suggests, my musings on anything and everything that is going on in this crazy world we live in.

I must say, after reading the creative blog from my friend Nikki (http://thepinkgrowl.blogspot.com), it has inspired me to do something a little more personal than folks just seeing me out at a game doing coverage or reading my tweets (Cheap plug: Follow me @The_Matty_D).

I hope everyone will enjoy my musings, random thoughts, web links and maybe some rants as I go along and learn exactly how I want this thing to go in the future.

So welcome to my blog. Have fun. Be friendly. And just have a good time reading. Thanks.
